SummaryThe course provides postgraduate students with a close study of poetry written during the Hellenistic period. Particular emphasis will be placed on identifying characteristic features and understanding the literature's relationship with the wider Hellenistic world, especially its political and cultural institutions.

Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this course, students will have gained a thorough and extensive knowledge of Hellenistic poetry, of its development and interaction with the machinery of power and culture, and of the current state of scholarship in this field.
Students will refine analytical skills, their ability to understand and interpret what they read, and craft and express an argument in written form and oral form through oral presentations, discussions, and a research paper.
