Summary | For the committed athlete avoiding injury is a significant concern. Performance is greatly influenced by the athlete's physical and mental well-being, and participation has implications for health. The course is concerned with promoting an understanding of the medical aspects of sport and exercise. The course also develops in the student the underpinning knowledge to manage sports injuries through all stages or rehabilitation. The student is introduced to the roles and responsibilities of all members of the Sports Medicine Team. |

Learning Outcomes
Take account of the factors involved in preventing injury whilst developing performance;
Be aware of the scheme of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation and know how to access and interact with this process and understand its effects on performance;
Demonstrate an understanding of the advantages for medical consideration of, and limitations to, speciic client groups: children, disabled, female participants, health promotion in the general public;
Demonstrate an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of the sport and exercise medicine and science team and the interactionof the members thereof;
Demonstrate an understanding of procedures, mechanisims, legal implications and complications of drugs in sport.
