SummaryThis course will cover the critically important aspect of funding, resourcing and planning of Translational Medicine within academia and industry. This is now especially relevant given the strategic and interdisciplinary approach being adopted, and the size and scale of the enterprise required in modern translational research. This topic will be covered at several levels beginning with analysis of the funding initiatives and strategies adopted by Government and Charitable funding bodies to resource academic research and stimulate interactions between industry and academia. The role of venture capital funding in driving innovative research strategies and niche technologies particularly in the biotechnology sector will be covered and case studies will be given. The funding and resourcing strategies adopted by global pharmaceutical companies are of pivotal importance, and this issue will be covered particularly in relation to the strategic approaches to modern integrative drug research and the development. The mechanisms and barriers of the marketing and promotion of new drugs, diagnostic approaches and emerging research technologies will be featured
