Course description | This course will provide an introduction to systems and methods of applied research and evaluation. Applied quantitative and qualitative research methods will be introduced on the basis of applied examples of audit and evaluation of mental health services as well as individual treatment evaluations.
The course will introduce the use and application of statistical software packages. The course will further teach the appraisal of research evidence and the design and implementation of audit and evaluation projects. Particular emphasis will be placed on user participation and research ethics. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
* Select and apply appropriate criteria to the choice of a specific area for investigation
* Identify, analyse and apply critically key issues in research design, in data collection, data analysis and in evaluation
* Prepare a protocol for a small-scale research study in the field of applied psychology or clinical service demonstrating sound methodological knowledge and appropriate ethical awareness
