On successful completion of the Dissertation course students will have:
The knowledge and understanding of epistemological approaches, methodologies relevant to research in counselling, social science research skills, and designing a research project.
The capacity to critically appraise research, analyse and synthesise information, and apply social science debates about research.

The MSc by Research dissertation provides the opportunity to thoroughly research and develop an original and engaging research question, producing as a result a full proposal for PhD/MPhil research. The dissertation should include:
a comprehensive review of relevant literature, through which the rationale for, and the precise nature of, the proposed research question is developed, and
a discussion of the proposed research design and methodology through which this research question can be investigated
