Course description | The aim of this course is to teach the student about the aetiology, prevalence, assessment and management of dental anxiety in children and adolescents using the most appropriate non-pharmacological and pharmacological behaviour management techniques. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
1. Discuss the aetiology, prevalence and assessment of dental anxiety
2. Discuss the non-pharmacological behaviour management techniques used in the United Kingdom (UK).
3. Describe the use of local anaesthesia and procedural pain management in paediatric dentistry
4. Discuss conscious sedation techniques used in the UK, including inhalation sedation, intravenous sedation and transmucosal sedation
5. Discuss the indications, contraindications and decision making processes involved in referring children for treatment under General Anaesthesia
6. Understand the guidelines underpinning the use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological behaviour management techniques in the UK
7. Discuss the legislation in relation to obtaining consent for treatment of children and adolescents.
8. Select the most appropriate behaviour management technique for each individual child in the clinical setting.
