Course description | This course introduces students to a broad range of basic research methods in relation to practical studio work, enabling them to extend their understanding of design practice. The specific aims of the Course are to introduce students to key theories, practices, contexts and debates in design; to encourage the creative and critical development of personal practice; to encourage curiosity and foster critical enquiry. |

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. INVESTIGATE: Show an ability to collect and collate images, objects and texts which demonstrate an investigation of the key research themes.
2. CONSIDER: Demonstrate a range of approaches to design research.
3. SELECT: Demonstrate the ability to select research themes and begin to develop a personal direction. |
Assessment Information
100% Coursework
Each learning outcome has equal weighting (1/3).
Formative assessment is provided at the mid-point of the academic year. There is continual formative feedback and feed forward throughout the academic year through group and individual tutorials and peer group work.
Assessment is by submission of portfolio of project work at the end of the course. At the end of second semester students will be given summative feedback; this is done individually.
