Course descriptionThis course is designed to introduce postgraduate students in the School of Divinity to the research culture of the School, the norms of the different disciplines within Divinity and Religious Studies, and the resources available in the School (including library and computing facilities). It will also address critical thinking, succinct critical speaking, initial advice on postgraduate research, and good and bad scholarly practice.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will have a satisfactory knowledge of the research culture of the School of Divinity, the norms of the different disciplines within Divinity and Religious Studies, and the resources available in the School (including library and computing facilities). They will be able to display improved critical thinking, critical speaking, and understanding of the skills and tools needed for postgraduate research, and will be able to distinguish between good and bad scholarly practice.
Assessment Information
Review article of 3000 words (50%)
Dissertation proposal 2,000 words (30%)
Oral presentation based on the dissertation proposal (20%)
Special Arrangements
Weeks 1-6 will consist of 2-hour plenary sessions; the final four two-hour sessions will be arranged by the Programme Directors of the individual Masters programmes.
