Course descriptionThis post-introductory course is intended for students who have successfully completed Foundation German Language 1 (ELCG07009 or ELCG07011) or Introductory German (ELCG07001 or ELCG07005) or have reached an equivalent standard (Standard Grade/GCSE). It is not suitable for absolute beginners or students with knowledge of German at Highers/A-level or above.

All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.

Pre-requisites It is RECOMMENDED that students have passed ( Foundation German Language 1 (ELCG07009) OR Foundation German Language 1 (ELCG07011) OR Introductory German Language (ELCG07001) OR Introductory German Language (ELCG07005))
Co-requisites
Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Foundation German Language 2 (ELCG07010)
Other requirements If not taken Introductory German: German at Standard Grade (SCE)/GCSE or equivalent evidence of proficiency.

Please note: this course will not appear on students' personalised timetable. Group Sign-up sheets will be available on LEARN after the first class meeting. Groups have a limited quota, if a group reaches capacity, you will need to choose another.

Students joining the course after the first class meeting with timetable restrictions on which group they can join must contact the course secretary before enrolling to confirm availability in the required group.

The teaching classes will start in the second week of the semester.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will further develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in German. They will further develop knowledge of basic grammatical structures and a vocabulary of approximately 1000 high-frequency words and phrases.
Assessment Information
Coursework 50% (Two class tests, four vocabulary tests, oral proficiency)
Degree exam 50% (A two-hour written paper)
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.
Special Arrangements
This course is open to all students as a credit bearing course, or over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course. DELC students may only take this course if it over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course.
