Course description | A course for beginners with no previous knowledge of Spanish, designed to give absolute beginners a basic, working knowledge of spoken and written Spanish. The course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of Spanish.
All students take all elements of assessment including the examination.
There is an identical course (Foundation Spanish Language 1 - ELCH07011) which runs in the first semester.
On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Foundation Spanish Language 2 - (ELCH07010) in Semester 1 or Foundation Spanish Language 2 (ELCH07014) in Semester 2, both 20 credits, which follow on from Foundation Spanish Language 1. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Basic knowledge of Spanish in a wide variety of situations with the aim to develop learner's confidence in language learning, understanding and responding to others in appropriate situations.
All units are topic-based and introduce a fundamental aspect of structure. Each unit is subdivided into several, stand-alone sections allowing the main topic to be developed and diversified, focusing on many aspects of everyday life and allowing the presentation of subsidiary grammatical items and lexical areas. |

Coursework 50% (Regular written exercises in class and two assessments)
Degree exam 50% (A two-hour written paper)
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination. |

This course is open to all students as a credit bearing course, or over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course. DELC students may only take this course if it over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course. |
