Course descriptionThis course will provide students with the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the academic skills required to write and plan a successful academic research project. It will be structured to follow the process of writing a research proposal (research methods, sourcing information, critical reading and evaluation, critical writing and research ethics) and will support students preparing for assessment and dissertation projects.

- Show an understanding of a variety of different research methods used in public and global health research
- Demonstrate research and information skills required to source academic texts in support of their study
- Demonstrate a level of critical thinking needed to engage with research data
- Reflectively evaluate their own learning and personal planning processes
- Structure arguments and present work in a scientific manner
- Show an understanding of research ethics in public and global health research
- Communicate effectively and succinctly through a written research proposal
Assessment Information
A written assessment in the form of a research proposal will constitute 100% of the student's grade. The proposal should demonstrate the skills developed during the course and over the duration of the programme of study.
