| Course description | An integrated course in spoken and written modern Persian. All the common grammatical structures are studied, translation done both from and into Persian, and a basic vocabulary and set of idioms are built up. Particular attention is paid to oral work. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
| The student is expected to be able to master grammatical structures, basic translation from and into Persian, and acquire a basic vocabulary and set of idioms and some speaking ability. | 
 
 
Assessment Information 
| Regular written exercises and occasional class tests will be set and marked (15% of final mark); 1 two-hour interim examination plus oral examination at end of first semester (25% of final mark); 1 three-hour examination plus oral examination at end of second semester (60% of final mark). |
