Course descriptionThe course introduces the basic structures of Arabic grammar and is designed to teach students to understand, speak and write modern standard Arabic to an advanced elementary / low intermediate level. This course is only available to students on the MSc in Late Antique, Islamic and Byzantine Studies degree programme.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students learn to read and write the Arabic script.
Students acquire knowledge of up to 1,000 key vocabulary items and the core concepts of Arabic grammar.
Students will gain the ability to understand, speak, read and write elementary Modern Standard Arabic to an advanced elementary / low intermediate level.
Assessment Information
Class work - 10% (regular written exercises and tests)
Examinations- 90% (80% of this examination mark is awarded for the written paper, and 20% for the oral)
