| Course description | Organisation, Management and Practice in Health Care focuses on the managerial knowledge and skills at the level required by the autonomous professional nurse. The context is the wider settings of nursing and health care.
This course begins with issues of professions and professional power and these are examined using the maternity area as an example. Issues relating to the control of practice lead into the session on teamwork and leadership. This is followed by an examination of career development, which may have personal applications.
Organisational issues are addressed next by considering non-discriminatory practice, the National Health Service and the relevant reports. Topics more directly relating to the individual's practice are next, in the form of accountability and autonomy, quality assurance and evidence-based practice. The final sessions bring together this work on organisation, management and practice by focussing on labour force issues and then the student presentations, which are structured around the 'Framework for Developing Nursing Roles'.
