Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Students who complete this course successfully will be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of:
1) Skills relating to the professional management of everyday elective and emergency ophthalmic pathology both medical and surgical, in preparation for a consultancy post.
2. 2) Patient history taking, examination, investigation and diagnosis-making skills to manage patients independently.
3. 3) Principles of Good Medical Practice as laid out by the UK General Medical Council; principles of evidence based medicine; quality improvement and patient care; patient safety.
4. 4) Basic epidemiology, statistics, clinical research techniques
and principles of clinical audit and their application to ophthalmology; information handling; use of computers and information technology in medicine; health economics.
5. 5) The role of the ophthalmologist as leader and member of a multi-professional clinical team, including communication skills; health promotion and disease prevention (HPDP); attitudes, ethics and responsibilities (AER). |
