Course descriptionThis is a supervised reading course with weekly discussion sessions designed to prepare students to undertake research for a dissertation. It also provides an introduction to library, museum and, where appropriate, computer and archival resources in order to locate, extract and evaluate information from primary and secondary sources. The nature and content of the reading will, to some extent, depend on individual interests and specializations. Students will also be expected to give presentations on their proposed research or research interests.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
An ability to devise a programme of research and to locate relevant sources of information. To obtain experience in presenting a verbal exposition of ideas and data to an audience of peers. To inculcate initiative for independent research. To engage interactively with other students in discussions of research projects and proposals.
