Course descriptionThis course is an integral component of the taught MSc degree programme, The Second World War in Europe (History). It considers the following themes in relation to the home fronts of Germany, Italy and the Soviet Union (Britain is considered in a separate course, Britain at war): industry and labour; agriculture; gender; consumption; culture and entertainment. It also deals with the home fronts and the extent of collaboration with belligerents in countries including Spain, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the subject matter of these subjects. In particular, they will acquire a facility for dealing with comparative history. They will improve their oral skills through participation in group discussion, as well as through the presentation of seminar papers. They will improve their written skills through the written assignment. They will improve their team working skills within the group. Above all, they will improve their problem-solving skills.
