Course descriptionThis course deals with the relationship between three important variables in twentieth century African history - namely, ethnicity, class and the struggle for political power. Although reference is made to other examples, the particular case-studies that have been selected are Ghana, Senegal and South Africa.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To inculcate an understanding of comparative approaches to
African history, as well as an appreciation of debates relating to the specific country studies. To develop transferable analytical, theoretical, and presentational skills along with a practical awareness of cultural difference.
