| Course description | This course covers fundamental skills relating to the psychological research process, from developing research ideas to designing and conducting an experiment, communicating research findings, and knowledge transfer.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes 
1. Understand the relationship between research ideas and the formulation of testable hypotheses. 
2. Communicate research ideas and findings in a variety of formats to specialist and non-specialist audiences. 
3. Appreciate the importance of public engagement and knowledge transfer in the research process. 
4. Understand ethical considerations relating to psychological research design. | 
 
 
Assessment Information 
Semester 1: 1000 word PhD research proposal prepared according to the PPLS postgraduate application guidelines, plus a 300 word lay summary of the proposed research. The proposal should usually be linked to the research theme of an academic member of staff within Psychology. Formative feedback will be provided, but a numerical mark will not be recorded. 
 
Assessment Deadline: TBC 
Coursework Word Limit: 1,000 words

Semester 2: Poster presentation of MSc Dissertation proposal to be presented at Psychology MSc poster day. Formative feedback will be provided, but a numerical mark will not be recorded, only Pass / Fail. 
 
Submission Deadline: midnight of day of Poster Presentation 
Poster Format: will be specified on the Learn pages 
Poster Return Date: tbc, approximately 3 weeks after Poster Presentation day |
