Summary | This is a project using digital sound technology that will be a product of individual working. It will result in a composition or some such similar musical work which will be performed in a Showcase Concert in August, unless the nature of your approved project makes this impossible. In order to be be excused from performance you must have explicit, written confirmation from the Programme Director that a performance is not required. |
Course description |
Virtually the whole of this course will be devoted to a major project. There is a preference for students to work individually as composers though collaboration with other members of the group or indeed any other musician(s) will be acceptable.
To ensure that it is both feasible within the given time and resource constraints, the scope and nature of each project must be agreed in writing by the Programme Director or Academic Director before commencement. It is of the utmost importance that the submitted project fulfils all aspects of the agreed proposal. Any deviations from the proposal must be authorised in writing by the Programme or Academic Director before submission.
A significant amount of custom software development will be expected and this must of a standard equal to or exceeding that required in other courses. Each student will be assigned an individual supervisor who will monitor progress and offer advice and support, but students are expected to take full responsibility for their own work. Planning and scheduling of the work is crucial, and the Programme Calendar offers only the barest outline.
Work can commence in week7 of semester 2, though approval to proceed will depend on the outcome of the Examination Board meeting at the end of semester 2. Work should continue to the September submission date.
