| Summary | This Honours level optional course seeks to enable students to understand the relative influence of social, cultural and biological factors impinging on the human experience of being and having a physical body. In particular, the recent emergence of sociological interest in the body is utilised to critically explore physical culture and theories of the body in contemporary society. |

-Understand different theoretical approaches to the significance of the body in society. 
 
-Analyse significant social, cultural and political aspects of the body.

-Assess the use of the body as a medium of personal expression and social action within contemporary and historical accounts.
