| Summary | You will engage in the interpretation of contemporary art in professional institutionalised settings . You will develop a sophisticated awareness of sites and audiences in relation to current curatorial theories and practices. You will be introduced to the study of exhibition spaces, and will develop your historical, theoritical and practical knowledge of their means and their significance. |
| Course description |
In this module you will examine some of the key contemporary and historical issues within exhibition and gallery practice and culture. You will look at critical issues relating to the ¿ideology of the white cube¿, the history and politics of Artist run spaces, specifically in Scotland, the role of collectives and collaborative practice in the development of gallery culture and lastly the possibilities and potential of digital technology and culture to develop new ways of displaying, distributing and producing contemporary art practice.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Critically re-assess curatorial histories and theories in relation to emerging tendencies in curatorial practice in an essay.
- Present evidence of your research in group seminars for the purposes of generating critical discussion around themes in contemporary curatorial and exhibition practice.
- Demonstrate evidence of your understanding of how the meaning of objects and artworks are generated by exhibition and display contexts and skills.
