| Course description |
The Course covers the aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of the common conditions in horses as encountered in veterinary practice will be presented in lectures. This information will be consolidated by case presentations, practicals and the students¿ own further reading.
This course has the following aims and objectives:
1. To study the aetiology, clinical signs, diagnostic techniques, treatment and prognosis of the main diseases affecting horses, ponies and donkeys,
2. To review the husbandry of horses - already taught in preclinical courses.
3. To instil an appreciation of ethical and welfare issues encountered during the practice of veterinary medicine.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the clinical signs of common diseases affecting horses
- List likely differential diagnoses for common presenting syndromes
- Show an understanding of the diagnostic tests commonly used in horses, including their advantages, disadvantages and cost
- Apply knowledge of diseases and interpretation of diagnostic tests to the choice of appropriate treatments and formulation of a prognosis
