Pre-requisitesPlease note pre-requisites as stated above. Visiting students will be expected to demonstrate an equivalent level of competency in a Celtic language and/or knowledge of Celtic Civilisation/literature.

Additional Information (Assessment) For grammar classes and similar students are expected to prepare certain exercises and assignments as 'homework'. For text-reading classes the workload consists of preparation of texts, and participation in classroom translation of texts and discussion of their form, content and context as appropriate.

The Degree Examination for Early Irish Texts 1 and Early Irish Texts 2 counts for 50% of the total marks available for each course, and the two class tests count for 25% each.

Learning Outcomes
The teaching programme consists of two complementary strands, introducing students to the pronunciation, grammar and syntax of Early Irish, and training them to read edited Early Irish texts. It provides students with an introduction to the palaeographic, orthographic and textual background of the texts studied.
