Course description The MSc by Research dissertation provides the opportunity to thoroughly research and develop an original and engaging research question, producing as a result a full proposal for PhD/MPhil research. The dissertation should include:

a comprehensive review of relevant literature, through which the rationale for, and the precise nature of, the proposed research question is developed, and

a discussion of the proposed research design and methodology through which this research question can be investigated

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand epistemological approaches, methodologies relevant to research in counselling, social science research skills, and designing a research project.
  2. Critically appraise research, analyse and synthesise information, and apply social science debates about research.
