Course description This course aims to provide a general overview of American history from the arrival of the first permanent European settlers at Jamestown in 1607 through 1898.

In covering such an extensive period, this course is aimed at providing a general introduction to the major issues in American history with an in-depth coverage of a few specific topics.

Pre-requisitesVisiting students should usually have at least 1 introductory level History. course at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this) for entry to this course. We will only consider University/College level courses.

Additional Information (Assessment) For Visiting Students only here in Semester 1, the overall mark for the course will be made up of the following components:

Semester 1 Tutorial Journals (40%)
Tutorial Performance (20%)
Take-home examination at the end of Semester 1 (40%)
Feedback Students will receive written feedback on their coursework, and will have the opportunity to discuss that feedback further with the Course Organiser during their published office hours or by appointment.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate, by way of coursework and examination as required, a sound knowledge of the subject considered in the course;
