SummaryOn successful completion of coursework MMus students in composition prepare, under supervision, for the submission of a portfolio of compositions.
Course description The principal intention of the Portfolio is to provide you with an opportunity to pursue an individual creative path, towards the completion of a musical work (or works), notated and presented in a way appropriate for public performance.

Additional Information (Assessment) A portfolio of compositions consisting either of a single extended composition or of a number of contrasting pieces; it should demonstrate a full exploration of the student's creative horizons as well as clear competence in relevant technical areas. There is no requirement for an accompanying commentary.
Feedback Feedback will be provided on a regular basis, through individual consultations with the course tutor.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate the ability to create musical materials and formal structures, in the production of one or more extended pieces of creative work.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to notate musical intentions clearly, for other musicians and performers, in the production of a musical score (or scores).
  3. Demonstrate a knoweledge of the artistic context of the creative work, through intertextual references and statements.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to initiate and complete an individual creative project, in all its details.
