SummaryThe Supervised Reading Course (10 credits) enables students to pursue their interest and choose a topic that fits their desire explore a body of literature in more depth. The final submission should demonstrate the individualised learning pathway and the link to advancing professional practice.

Supported by an academic supervisor, the learner will have the flexibility to set their own route to exploring a limited number of resources. By so doing it is anticipated that the learners will maximise the opportunity to be self-directed and negotiate supervision arrangements that fit with their needs.
Course description The Supervised Reading Course (10 credits) allows students to select their own topic for self-directed study. The topic will be selected in agreement with the Programme Director and the chosen supervisor to complement but not reproduce the material and approaches covered in one or more of the other courses taken by the student, either by filling a gap in the material so covered, or by pursuing a particular subject or approach in significantly greater depth than on other courses.
The student will be limited to a scope set by their supervisor and supervisory arrangements will be agreed through negotiation.
On completion of the course students:
-Will possess comprehansive understanding of a unique body of literature on a topic relevant to their Master programme.
-Be able to reflect critically on the empirical and theoretical content of that limited body of literature.
-Relate the literature to topics or approaches covered in other courses which were taken previously.
-Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of the chosen subject.
-Demonstrate the ability to be a self-directed, problem solving and autonomous learner.

Additional Information (Assessment) One course paper of up to 2,500 words. The topic for the course paper has to have the approval of the course organiser. The course paper must be clearly distinguishable from the MSc dissertation, but may address a topic in preparation for dissertation work.
Feedback Formative feedback will be given at each of the three recommended supervisory meetings, which will be agreed between the student and their supervisor.

Feedback for the Summative assessment will be given via LEARN.
