Postgraduate Course: Livestock behaviours as routes of disease transmission (VESC11076)
Course Outline
School | Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies |
College | College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine |
Credit level (Normal year taken) | SCQF Level 11 (Postgraduate) |
Course type | Online Distance Learning |
Availability | Available to all students |
SCQF Credits | 10 |
ECTS Credits | 5 |
Summary | The student will gain an understanding of how livestock behaviours influence disease risk and transmission, and how disease status can in turn affect livestock behaviours. The course will explore how a knowledge and understanding of such patterns can help develop effective disease control strategies. |
Course description |
Introduction to the concepts of:
Infectious livestock disease
How livestock behaviour affects disease risk and transmission
Influence of disease status on livestock behaviour
Principles of modelling livestock behaviours and disease transmission
Livestock disease and production efficiency and pollution
Livestock x pathogen interactions in grazing environments
