SummaryThis is a core course for the MSc Dementia: International Experience, Policy and Practice. It is also available as a standalone CPD course.

Teaching will be entirely online.

The course gives a critical introduction to theoretical perspectives that underpin dementia care and takes a holistic view of dementia aiming to develop a critical understanding that includes, but goes beyond, a medical approach.

The course aims to develop detailed awareness of theoretical approaches to dementia and a critical understanding of how local and national policy in different countries impacts on people with dementia and their carers. It will also look at the effectiveness of interventions at different stages of dementia.
Course description With growing numbers of people diagnosed with dementia, there is a need for increased service provision for this client group. This course offers a learning experience to both counsellors/psychotherapists and dementia practitioners that will provide core skills and knowledge to allow them to offer therapeutic support to people with dementia.
