Year 1, Academic year 2016/17, Starting month: September
Notes: Students on the 12-month route of the PG Certificate programme take one module in one semester and two modules in one semester.
To be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate, you must complete a total of 60 credits of study.
For further information see:
http://www.law.ed.ac.uk/teaching/online_distance_learning/postgraduate_certificate_in_law/study_durations
On successful completion of the programme, you have the option of either graduating with the PG Certificate or, subject to obtaining an average of at least 50% across your modules (i.e. having demonstrated a Masters-level performance), you may request a transfer onto one of the eLLM programmes.
Please note that a maximum of 40 credits (two modules) may be selected from any one of groups A, B, C or D. Each of these groups includes a set of modules belonging to a particular subject area:
Group A includes medical law subject area modules.
Group B includes intellectual property law subject area modules.
Group C includes IT law subject area modules.
Group D includes international commercial law subject area modules.
A maximum of 20 credits (one module) can be taken from the group E modules in this programme.
Group E includes modules across all four subject areas. Please note that a course from this collection can only be taken with the approval of your Programme Director.
Please note also that if a student has already taken two modules from a single subject area, ie two modules from one of groups A-D, they can only take a module from group E that belongs to a different subject area. For guidance on which modules belong to which subject area, please see http://www.law.ed.ac.uk/teaching/online_distance_learning/postgraduate_certificate_in_law/modules
An exception to this rule may be approved for PG Certificate students intending to progress to the LLM Medical Law & Ethics by online distance learning, in which case a third medical law module may be taken from group A or group E, subject to the approval of your Programme Director.
