Course description |
In the first term of your study, you will be encouraged and supported in an in-depth studio assessment (via one to one tutorials with your studio tutor and group crits) of how you work can be positioned in relation to current contemporary art practice and theory.
Group seminars, crits and tutorials will help you to critically re-assess your understanding of the field of contemporary art, to re-conceptualise and present your work in relation to this rapidly expanding field.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Research - Demonstrate and present evidence of a high level of artistic, scholarly and independent research into contemporary art. Prepare for and make constructive contributions to tutorials and group crits demonstrating your research into the field of contemporary art.
- Analyse - Analyse a range of textual and non-textual discourses concerning contemporary art, demonstrating a creative and original response to new problems and issues within the discipline in the presentation of a selection of your studio work. Critically re-assess, develop and re-structure your working methods, demonstrating a creative and original response to new problems and issues within contemporary art practice.
- Communicate - Regularly present, in one to one tutorials with your studio tutor and in group crits during the semester, and in your final portfolio presentation of the semesters work, the results of your research for the scrutiny of your tutors and peers demonstrating a critical understanding of the principal theories and current issues in contemporary art practice.
