SummaryAn integrated introduction to elementary Japanese language skills for graduates with little or no previous knowledge of Japanese. The course covers all four language-skill areas - speaking, listening, reading, and writing, and their proficiency level will gradually progress from basic practice to communicative activities. A good deal of private study is necessary to meet the requirements of the course.

Learning Outcomes
Students will acquire (1) spoken and listening skills to carry out simple everyday conversation, (2) reading skills to understand short, simple printed-materials, and (3) writing skills, including handwriting and Japanese keyboarding, to be able to write short compositions using appropriate kana writing (the Japanese phonetic writing) and about 60 kanji (Chinese characters).
