SummaryThis course aims to consolidate reading of classical Hebrew and to enrich experience of textual history and exegesis of the Hebrew Bible.
Course description Academic Description:
This course is intended to extend and deepen your knowledge of classical Hebrew by the reading of poetic Hebrew texts of the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Judaism.

Syllabus/Outline Content:
This course will allow you to extend your knowledge of Hebrew poetry, including the reading of unpointed Hebrew texts from the Judaean Desert.

Student Learning Experience Information:
The course will be taught by a combination of lectures and readings seminars, during which time students would be able to engage with the primary sources as well as scholarly discussion of various issues.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. widen the student's experience of classical Hebrew through careful reading of selected Biblical texts.
  2. develop skills of textual criticism through first-hand examination of the range of relevant evidence.
  3. develop skills in exegesis through a structured investigation of the literary, historical and theological dimensions of the texts studied.
