SummaryA course aimed at developing generic research and presentation skills.

Students develop and explore a topic of their own choice within a given theme. The course is intended to equip students with core skills that will be used in the student research component of third year and beyond. Topics chosen for SRC Foundation should not directly relate to material taught elsewhere in the BVM&S programme.

Course description During the SSC1 course you should develop your skills in:

- developing a research topic
- the acquisition and organisation of knowledge around a research question
- the presentation of knowledge in a structured and interesting way
- communication between team members
- team management and time management

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Explore specific self-selected topics in depth
  2. Recognise the importance of, and develop communication skills between team members, supervisors and other professionals
  3. Develop team working skills, using the skills of the group effectively to select and assign aspects of work and to produce the final project.
  4. Develop an approach to learning based on curiosity and exploration rather than passive acquisition
  5. Learn and utilise informatics skills to search, communicate, collect and store data and prepare a presentation
