|This double module course is an extended work based assignment which continues and completes the school based project and for which students produce an interim formative evaluation in course 4. This is therefore the culmination of their studies, through which they should exemplify enhanced professional practice and competence and:-
a) Be able to demonstrate a broad and in-depth picture of their professional practice and competence in all 5 professional actions and all 3 essential elements of the Standard for Headship
b) Demonstrate success in the development of identified aspects of the school's capacity for change and also impact, through their leadership and management, on the experience of all stakeholders, especially pupils achievement and staff practice in teaching and learning.
Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
| Applicants are required to have the following:
a) A reference from their headteacher.
b) Local Authority funding.
c) A successful outcome from a Local Authority application and interview process.
d) Current GTCS registration.
e) 5 years minimum teaching experience.

| Students will have an enhanced understanding of:-
a) School culture, micro politics, power and multiple accountabilities of the role of the headteacher
b) Current policy initiatives at local and national level
c) Processes and systems for quality assurance in schools
d) The various models of school effectiveness and school improvement
e) The complementary nature of operational and strategic planning
f) The interaction between theory, their own professional development and their practice in the work place
Students will be able to demonstrate:
a) their understanding and enhanced practice of the change process in schools
b) an ethical approach to leadership and management
c) wide ranging skills in managing and improving teaching and learning on a whole school basis
d) sound and supportive practice in working with and through people
e) the ability to manage resources, especially the key resource of staff, to obtain best value
f) a realistic but effective approach to managing policy development and whole school development planning for improvement
g) a personal commitment to the key purpose of headship as stated in the Standard for Headship
