The course covers the pre-naturalistic novel, the naturalistic novel, the modernist novel, the gothic pastiche novel, the modern children¿s novel, the documentary novel and other novelistic forms. The course will include discussions of theoretical perspectives on the definition and development of the novel as a genre, based on the study and presentation of a selection of critical texts.
The course will give students the opportunity to study a range of novelistic forms in context, aiming to develop skills in literary analysis as well as an awareness of different critical approaches to the novel.
