SummaryStudents must gain an overall coursework pass of 50% or above in order to proceed to the dissertation. The MSc degree is awarded on the basis of the mark gained for the dissertation.

Fiction dissertations should be not less than 15,000 words and not more than 20,000 words. 20,000 words is a firm limit. 15,000 words is a firm minimum.

Poetry dissertations should be circa 30 pages (1 poem per page) and not longer than 35 pages. 35 pages is a firm limit.

Candidates who fail to achieve the MSc standard in their marked coursework will not be allowed to proceed to the creative writing project, but provided they have achieved between 40 and 49% in the taught component they will be awarded to Diploma.

MSc candidates failing to achieve an adequate standard in the dissertation will be awarded the Diploma.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
