Summary | This course will introduce students to a range of skills and competencies required for the effective management, conservation, development and display of special collections. It is designed to provide an introduction to practical issues in collections use and management that will be of interest to both to students who plan to use special collections in their future research and to those hoping to pursue a career working with libraries and collections. |
Course description |
This course will introduce students to a range of issues surrounding the conservation, management, and display of special collections, with particular emphasis on manuscript and printed materials. Issues to be covered include cataloguing, conservation techniques, digitisation, collection management, and display and exhibitions. Seminars will be taught by experts from the University Library and beyond.
The course is available to students from other MSc programmes with the approval of their programme directors and the course organiser.
