This course explores key concepts and issues in Health Informatics and eHealth. It provides a grounding in the history and evolution of the fields at theoretical and applied levels.

The course will be divided into 5 sessions, each lasting a week. Most sessions will contain written materials and presentations, accompanied by guided reading in the form of links to journal articles with problem-based learning questions.
Discussion of the content and reading materials will be posted to an online forum, along with students' answers to the problem based learning (PBL) questions.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Apply critical and systems thinking to the evaluation of Health Informatics and eHealth issues, opportunities and challenges
- Critically evaluate the history, stages of development, and the scope and diversity within the fields of Medical Informatics and eHealth.
- Critically evaluate the mechanisms for modelling, visualising and organising information and systems
- Critically evaluate socio-technical perspectives on the current and future development of Health Informatics and eHealth infrastructures such as the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Identify and discuss the key factors and emerging trends influencing the current and future evolution of Health Informatics and eHealth.
