Politics, violence, republicanism, stoic virtue: all this and more in Shakespeare¿s Roman plays. Shakespeare was fascinated by ancient Rome throughout all his creative life. We will study versions of 'Titus Andronicus' (1593), 'Julius Caesar' (1599), 'Antony and Cleopatra' (1606-7), and his final study of Roman culture, 'Coriolanus' (1607) using class discussion and DVD extracts.

¿ evaluate adaptations and stagings of Shakespeare
