SummaryThis module will address real world applications of Operational Research in the airline industry. Two specific problems will be discussed, crew scheduling and yield management. Crew scheduling is the problem of the optimal use of crew and flight attendants. It can be formulated as a set partitioning problem, which requires sophisticated combinatorial optimization techniques to solve efficiently.

Yield management is the problem of selecting the fares to charge the customers and how to adjust these dynamically in response to bookings. Specific pricing strategies with tools, techniques and their implementation will be discussed.
