SummaryIIntegrated Resource Management is about co-ordinating planning & decision making processes in natural resource use so that:
- user conflicts are reduced
- long term sustainable benefits are optimized
- economic, environmental, & social needs of society are balanced
This course introduces participants to a range of decision support tools and focuses on their application in practice. The sessions will be primarily participative and include exposure to some computer based practical examples.
Course description Following an introductory session, the course comprises of 3 broad sections including a case visit to Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park:

Section 3 Management decisions support mechanisms

15 Nov Balancing welfare needs with environmental responsibility

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand the integrated character of natural resource use interactions & the need for integrated intervention & management
  2. Appreciate the challenges of developing integrated policy & management practices
  3. Use appropriate planning & management decision support tools in natural resource utilisation
  4. Apply their knowledge of policy directives & instruments affecting natural resources

Additional Information
Graduate Attributes and Skills Students will gain experience in developing and communicating short, focused management reports. Their analytical and interpretative skills will be enhanced, as will their ability to research and present relevant resource related literature.
Problem solving and group work is a key component of the student experience, and in parallel to the experience gained in decision support methods, students will become more proficient in spreadsheet use.
