SummaryThis option examines the clinical neuropsychological assessment of a range of neuropsychological disorders. The pattern of cognitive dysfunction in disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease, semantic dementia, frontal lobe syndromes, and amnesia will be studied and explained using cognitive models of memory, semantic organisation and behaviour control. In addition the student will be introduced to a range of clinical neuropsychological assessment methods.

Pre-requisitesDegree major in Psychology and passes in Psychology courses at least to the equivalent of Junior Honours level in Edinburgh. Prior agreement with the 4th Year Honours Course Organiser

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Clinical neuropsychological assessment and neuropsychological tests used within a clinical setting.
  2. Neuropsychological presentation of a range of clinical neurological disorders including the dementias.
  3. Students will be able to apply cognitive models to explain profiles of cognitive and behavioural dysfunction.
  4. Teaching will consist of lectures, video case presentations, workshops and student presentations.
