SummaryThis course will give students a good understanding of the major issues in ecosystem health and how these relate to species conservation, by being presented with relevant examples to illustrate the major problems and how solutions to these can be achieved.
Course description A knowledge of public health including an understanding of how to prevent transmission of disease between animals and man
Knowledge and understanding of the relationship between veterinary science, medical science and other biosciences
Demonstrate an awareness of the role of veterinarians in the community, particularly in relation to ethical principles and responsibilities, more generally in relation to their possible impact on the environment and society as a whole

Online assessment will incorporate a variety of activities will constitute 40% of their overall course grade and is taken to represent a formative assessment of learning throughout the programme

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. - Understand the complex relationships between human and wildlife populations and the ecosystems in which they live
  2. - Understand the links between ecosystem health, ecosystem services and human and animal well-being
  3. - Discuss the current threats to ecosystem health worldwide, and understand the complex mix of drivers creating these
  4. - Identify those ecosystems most at risk of degradation and predict the impact(s) on wildlife populations of continued ecosystem degradation.
  5. - Understand the features of good practice in the sustainable use of resources
