Compulsory courses

Year 2 Academic year: 2017/18, Starting in: August

Notes:
Progression to Year 2 normally requires passes in at least 80 credit points worth of courses in Year 1.

In addition, entry to Year 2 is normally only permitted if the following pre-requisite courses are passed:

- CIVE08001: Civil Engineering 1
- ARCH08002: Technology & Environment: Principles.

Year 3 Academic year: 2017/18, Starting in: August

Notes:
Progression to Year 3 normally requires passes in at least 100 credit points worth of courses in Year 2. The 100 credit points passed must be from the list of courses given in Year 2 of the Degree Programme Table (DPT) of the student's chosen degree programme.

In addition, entry to Year 3 is normally only permitted if the following pre-requisite courses are passed:

- CIVE08012: Behaviour and Design of Structures 2
- CIVE08019: Soil Mechanics 2
- SCEE08002: Structural Mechanics 2A
- CIVE08010: Structural Mechanics 2B.

Most students will take Culture and Performance in the History of Construction (CIVE10023) as one of their optional courses.

Structural Engineering with Architecture Year 3 options

Select between 10 and 20 credits of the following courses
Notes:
Students must select a total of 2 x 10 credit optional courses.
A minimum of 10 credits (and a maximum of 20 credits) must be taken from the four courses listed below.
If taking 10 credits from this list, a further 10 must be taken from the subsequent group.
OR

Structural Engineering with Architecture Year 3 options

Select between 0 and 10 credits of the following courses
OR

Level 9 and 10 courses in Schedules A to Q, T and W

Select between 0 and 10 credits from Level 9 and 10 courses in Schedules A to Q, T and W
Selected courses must be taken during Semester 2

Year 4 Academic year: 2017/18, Starting in: August

Notes:
In addition to standard progression rules, entry to 4th year MEng requires average of 55% in third year, at first attempt.

Courses are compulsory but may be taken in either year 4 or year 5.

Optional Courses for Structural Engineering with Architecture (MEng) Years 4 and 5

Select between 10 and 50 credits of the following courses
Notes:
These courses may be taken in either year 4 or year 5.
At least one course - taken in either year - must be at Level 11 (these are those courses with '5' in the title)

AND

Level 10 and 11 courses in Schedules A to Q, T and W

Select between 0 and 10 credits from Level 10 and 11 courses in Schedules A to Q, T and W

Year 5 Academic year: 2017/18, Starting in: August

Notes:
Graduation requires all of the following courses to have been taken in either Year 4 or Year 5:

- MAEE10005: Engineering Project Management 4
- CIVE10003: Plastic Analysis of Frames and Slabs 4
- CIVE10002: Thin-Walled Members and Stability 4.
