| Course description |
The Academic Portfolio: Landscape Architecture [AP: LA] course places the emphasis on self-directed study informed by a sequence of lectures relating to: Academic Portfolio Design, Communicating Landscape Architecture Skills to a professional audience, and to employer and public stakeholders.
The AP: LA is designed as an opportunity to undertake a period of critical reflection, collection, curation and representation of work samples from individual student practice towards the creation of a portfolio. The course also encourages you to critically reflect on your own individual design identity manifested through your own body of work over a four-year trajectory in the programme, as well as on the concerns of the profession.
In the Academic Portfolio course the emphasis is placed upon the eloquence of the total presentation, as well as upon the appropriateness of the use of specific representational forms and the skill demonstrated in their deployment.
The development of work in this course comprises a first plan of the structure of the Academic Portfolio (formative) and a final summative electronic submission, both in accordance with a specified template.

| Additional Costs | Costs in this course are low, although they may vary radically.
Typically costs have ranged between £10 and £40. An average student will spend approximately £20. This value includes eventual costs associated printing materials for design development and associated with presentation material to communicated design thinking.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- The ability to develop a coherent, well designed and integrated design portfolio in the discipline of Landscape Architecture that documents and communicates knowledge, skills and abilities through coherent projects; and that synthesises and presents work produced in diverse media (sketch books, written work, drawings and models, etc.)
- A nuanced understanding of the relationship between professional criteria and academic work as evidenced through a clear visual referencing system.
- The acquisition and development of transferable skills to present work for scrutiny by peers, potential employers, and other public groups through structuring and communicating ideas effectively using diverse media.
