Drawing on a focused body of resources and visual material you will define a personal perspective in relation to your work.
Aims
1.To engage critically in specialist visual research in relation to art practice.
2.To build on and enhance an understanding of research that underpins a self-motivated approach to studio practice.
3.To identify appropriate materials, methods and processes of research within the context of your own work and current practice.

Assessment is formative at end of Semester 1 and summative at end of Semester 2.
1. A portfolio of research material submitted along with the degree show.
2. An accompanying hard-copy of your research report (1500 words).
3. A statement (300 words) and any digital files (Audio or Video) or web links should be uploaded to LEARN.
All components are equally weighted and compulsory.
1.
The edited portfolio of work should include visual and other material that was instrumental in the development of your work throughout the year.
- Drawings and Collage (including digitally manipulated material)
- Sketchbooks and Notebooks
- Models and Maquettes
- Any other material you utilised to feed and inform your work.
This should not be everything you have produced or looked at over the year, but a carefully selected range of material that became significant in the development and realisation of your art Practice.
2.
The research report, which should be included as hard copy with your portfolio, should detail your years' body of work.
- It should articulate how an artwork has been arrived at.
- How did you start?
- What did you look at?
- What processes did you use?
- What context are you working in?
- What are your methods?
The word count is 1500 words.
The report is therefore a synthesis of what you looked at. This could include sections from notebooks, your own writing (descriptive and reflective) as well references to other outside influences such as other artists or institutions like galleries or museums. The format should be chosen to reflect your working processes.
3.
The research statement that outlines your approach to your research should be uploaded onto LEARN. This piece of writing outlines what informs your work, what is its context? This should not just be a list of books or articles that you have read but should be concerned with how you have assimilated things looked at, listened to, and read. The word count is 300.
