SummaryThe course will be a series of lectures, covering: Gametogenesis, Development from fertilization to the blastocyst stage, Implantation and placental development and Embryogenesis, followed by a series of workshops covering the prenatal development of the Cardiovascular system, alimentary system, urogenital system, nervous system, limbs and head and neck.
Course description The course will comprise of 12 lectures during semester 1 and semester 2. The aim of the course is to cover all aspects of human development from ovulation, to fertilisation, pre- and post- implantation events and fetal development of all body systems.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand the process of embryology from fertilisation to implantation
  2. Describe the embryological development of the main body systems
  3. Describe how the gross anatomy of the body systems relate to their development
  4. Explain how developmental defects can lead to congenital abnormalities

Graduate Attributes and Skills In this course the students will also learn to apply their anatomical knowledge which they have gained in BHA1 and BHA2. This will require them to think critically, and consider the implications of the information that they have gained elsewhere.
