|Summary||This course provides students with an understanding of the content of organisation's operations strategy and the processes by which they are developed and implemented.
The course is divided into six blocks: Introduction to Operations Strategy, Information Technology Strategy, Logistics Strategy, Quality Strategy, the Development & Implementation of Operations Strategy.

Student Learning Experience
The course will be taught as ten two-hour sessions. The lectures will address the wide range of topics involved in operations management from a strategic perspective. The course will relate the development and implementation of Operations Strategy with current debates in management theory and practice. The course-work project and associated presentations will provide an opportunity for students to analyse and discuss the issues in a case study of their own choice.

|Pre-requisites||Visiting students should have at least 3 Business Studies courses at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this). We will only consider University/College level courses.

||By one assignment (50%) and a degree examination (50%).
The format of the examination will be for students to answer two essay questions from a paper with five questions in two hours.
The report will be a maximum of 2500 words supported by a single page summary and any appendices. It will involve the critical analysis of operations strategy in an organisation chosen by the student.
||Generic feedback on your coursework, together with individual marks, will be available on Learn on DATE (to be confirmed). You can also look at your individual feedback from SAME DATE in the UG Office (Room 1.11, Business School, 29 Buccleuch Place) and take away a copy of the feedback form, but you will not be able to take away the original piece of coursework, as it may be required by the Board of Examiners. OR You will also be able to review your individual feedback electronically via Grademark on Learn from SAME DATE.
Your examination marks will be posted on Learn (together with generic feedback and examination statistics) as soon as possible after the Boards of Examiners¿ meeting (normally early-mid June). During the summer months (i.e. mid/end June ¿ end August), you may come into the UG Office (Room 1.11, Business School, 29 Buccleuch Place) to look at your examination scripts.
Continuing students will also be given the opportunity to review their examination scripts early in the new academic year in Semester 1 (i.e. in October).

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe and discuss the key operations strategy concepts covered.
- Discuss critically the practical use of the techniques covered, taking into account organisational context.
- Explain and discuss the relationship between operations strategy with other functional strategies and overall business policy in the context of the strategic goals and objectives of the organisation.
- Relate theoretical debates about the choices available to operations managers to the practical development and implementation of operations strategy.

|Graduate Attributes and Skills
On completion of the course students willdemonstrate that they can, describe the operations of an organization and carry-out a critical analysis of these operations using concepts covered in the course lectures.
On completion of the assessed course project students will demonstrate their ability to plan and complete a study of a real-world organisation, including selecting and approaching an organisation, undertaking interviews, writing their study as a concise report and presenting their findings in class.
